Hiring an Immigration Representative in Edmonton

An immigration representative is a professional who assists you through the immigration process. Consider the fact that this might be your first and maybe only time dealing with immigration in Canada or in the United States, but an immigration representative may have handled thousands of cases with success. They know all about the immigration system and how to make sure your application is in the best position to be approved or accepted. But are all immigration representatives the same? The answer is a big NO.

There are two main types of immigration representatives in the United States and Canada: immigration consultants, and immigration lawyers. Their services may overlap slightly and both assist you with immigration, but they are very, very different immigration service professionals.

Immigration Lawyers Or Immigration Consultants?

An immigration consultant is an immigration representative that can assist you with your application form and explain a bit about the process to you. They are regulated by a relatively new regulatory body (in Canada, while the United States does not have formal regulations), and there have been problems in the past with unscrupulous consultants taking advantage of their clients or getting them into trouble. However, that is not to say that there aren’t great immigration consultants out there – there are, but it can be difficult to know which ones are working with your best interests in mind.

An immigration lawyer has a law degree and a license – they are also overseen by prestigious governing bodies that hold them to very high standards. They are allowed to give you legal advice, while consultants are not. They are also required to engage in continuing professional development and ensure that they are up-to-date on immigration regulation changes.

Why hire us for your immigration needs

An immigration lawyer can provide you with much more than an immigration consultant, but that does not mean all immigration lawyers are created equal. You need to make sure that the lawyer you choose gives you the care, attention and level of service that you and your immigration case deserve. When you hire your immigration lawyer, make sure that you are comfortable with them and that they have reviews available or testimonials that you can browse to see how they treat their clients and whether or not they have a proven track record.
